Fraternity & Sorority Fire Safety Education is a program coordinated through a partnership between the Champaign Fire Department, Urbana Fire Department, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, and Private Certified Housing.
The program consists of an in-person, educational component for chapters with a certified facility and an online safety education module for all groups including Certified, Non-Certified, and Non-Residential. All chapters will be required to have a representative (see below) complete the training course. In addition, chapters with certified houses will be required to schedule a fire safety presentation and conduct a fire drill in coordination with their respective fire department/city officials.
- Certified House – The chapter maintains a facility that has been granted as a Certified status through Private Certified Housing.
- In-Person Education: The chapter will be required to host a Fire Safety Education Session coordinated and presented by their respective city’s fire department. For Champaign properties, Neighborhood Services will directly contact chapter presidents, and for Urbana properties, the Urbana Fire Department will directly contact chapter presidents to setup the training sessions.
- Online Fire Safety Module: The live-in House Manager must complete the Fire Safety Module in a calendar year. Deadline: March 1st.
- Non-Certified and Non-Residential Facilities- The chapter maintains a facility that has not been designated as Certified through Private Certified Housing, including facilities that are non-residential.
- The chapter president or a designated member must complete the online Fire Safety Module in an academic year. Deadline: October 1st
